Winter has finally left the building, and our cardigans, coats, mufflers and all the cashmere and leather garments have been packed away for another year. A long awaited vacation, to escape the heat and enjoy pleasant climes, is on the cards. Fashion houses have already set out the trends and the game-changers for this mid-season. Call it Resort, cruise or even a high summer, there is a reason jet-setters of the world look forward to this collection.

Now, be it the French Riviera or a Goan beach resort, it is very important to have your style basics just right. And no, dear men, your old shorts and a scrunched up tee shall not make the cut this summer. It shall take a lot more than flip-flops and linen scarves around the neck to be able to turn heads this season.

Resort wear was originally a favourite of the elite and socialites flying off to popular holiday destinations once winter came to an end but just before summer shone bright. It was not unusual for boutiques, designers and fashion houses to cash in on this trend. But as the concept of beach holidays and cruises gained popularity, high street fashion brands too jumped at this new need.

The staples of any Cruise collection are garments in linen, cotton, khaki and shades of white and off-white. Half sleeved shirts, loose fit linen trousers, shorts that end just above the knees paired with espadrilles, sandals or just loafers are the basics that constitute a resort range. Here is a pick from The Collective’s selection of the hottest trends and shirt selection that hit the bull’s eye. The Hawaiian shirt has become a trademark design in men’s beachwear and has often been interpreted and reinvented by various designers and high street fashion brands.

One look at the slim fit shirt with short sleeves from Armani Jeans, and you are bound to fall in love with the straight lines and mandarin collar. It is simple, minimalist and it will take no effort to take this shirt from a day to a night event.

On the other side of the spectrum is Love Moschino, a brand that dares to play up its pop motifs and bring fun to its clothing. Hence, their pick of shirts too have the same vibe. They are fun, vibrant and bound to look fabulous whether paired with shorts or trousers.

A Hugo shirt with a palm tree print will ensure you instantly get into the holiday spirit. The perfect shade of blue in a slim fit, it’s a must-have for the weekend wardrobe as well. Similarly, Dsquared2 is a young and a popular brand that combines style with comfort. Take this shirt to the beach party or lounge in it by the pool. It is fun and easy.

Now you need not be short on style this summer and can cruise into the season effortlessly.
